  • Can my student tour the publishing plant?

Of course! Tours can be arranged for students who are in 4th grade or older. Tours must be scheduled two weeks out. No more than 30 people and no less than 7. Simply call Dianne Troyer, NIE Assistant, at 823-3501 to schedule one. For younger students, teachers can check out a video of the tour.

  • How do I incorporate the newspaper in my classroom?

The NIE staff is available to model lessons, teach in-services, and help plan units. NIE also offers teacher workshops at the Albuquerque Publishing Company throughout the year. If you would like an individual consultation, please call 823-3506. Individual consultations, in-services, and model lessons are all FREE. Teacher workshops have a very low registrations fee, depending on the length of the workshop.

  • How much does it cost?

The newspaper has special educator rates: the Albuquerque Journal costs $.21/copy/day. You need to order a minimum of seven copies for at least 26 days. Many times NIE can locate a business to sponsor classroom sets.

  • What else is available through NIE?

Newspapers in Education has a storeroom full of teacher materials! All guides have been matched to New Mexico State Educations Standards. NIE also arranges classroom presentations on various newspaper industry topics: production, editing, reporting, photojournalism, etc. Please call 823-3506 to arrange for a guest speaker or presentation. NIE also sends daily email activites base on the current Albuquerque Journal. Teachers who participate in NIE can get FREE on-line subscriptions to the Albququerque Journal.
